What does 720Hz mean?

A 720Hz monitor can refresh its image up to 720 times per second. That is a maximum display refresh rate—not a promise that every game will render 720 frames per second. To benefit fully, the PC must produce very high frame rates in the specific game and settings being used.

For a simple comparison, a 720Hz refresh cycle is about 1.39 milliseconds, while 540Hz is about 1.85 milliseconds. These figures describe refresh intervals, not total input latency or guaranteed real-world response.

Who could benefit?

• Competitive players: players of lightweight esports titles who prioritize motion clarity and responsiveness may have a use case if their PC consistently renders very high frame rates.
• Mixed-use gamers: people who play visually demanding single-player games may value resolution, contrast, HDR implementation and image quality more than an extreme refresh-rate ceiling.
• Everyday users: office work and general browsing rarely justify paying a premium solely for a 720Hz specification.

Check the complete setup—not only the monitor

• Confirm the exact model’s native resolution, supported refresh modes and required input connection.
• Check the graphics card can drive the chosen resolution and frame rate in your actual games.
• Compare panel type, brightness, HDR performance, motion handling, warranty and desk ergonomics.
• Read independent testing before relying on manufacturer response-time claims.
